I know that I'm mental, but I was doing research again, on caloric intake in the first several weeks of being banded. I came across this article.
You can use this website BMR Calculator to determine your Base Metabolic Rate. This is the number of calories you need to consume per day just to maintain your current weight. Then, if you want to lose 2 pounds per week, you'd take your BMR x 7 days - 7,000 calories / 7 days to get your new daily calorie limit. Be sure to recalculate your BMR after every 10 pounds lost so that you aren't eating too much. Also remember that when you exercise, you need to add those calories back in so you don't go so low that your body thinks it's in starvation mode.
My number of daily calories was low! In fact I had already surpassed it, after my 1/2 cup of cream of wheat lunch. Just a little something I'd thought I'd share. I may try it a day or two...has anyone ever used this..did it work..? I just get confused because sometimes you hear that to boost a weight loss you shoud increase calories. My protien shakes alone, with vitamin and protein supplements in them, are 350 calories.
I had a .7 loss today. Woot. Bring it.

Weird, I just did mine out and it equaled 700 calories...pretty sure thats not right! I think my body would hate me!
ReplyDeleteI know right!
ReplyDeleteYou don't just use your bmr - even if you're completely sedentary you multiply it by 1.2... I work out 3-5 times a week (at least) so I multiply mine by 1.55 which takes my calories burned to 2568 - I never hit that, and I don't know that I agree with BMR, but that is how it is supposed to be understood.
ReplyDeleteI just did mine and it said to maintain-1550 calories. Then did your calculation above (ended up with 560). Not sure if I was to subtract 560 or if that was what I had to stay at to lose 2 pounds a week. I still think we need to stay 1000-1200 calories to be healthy and the weight will come off. That has usually been my limit when on other diets. Problem was I couldn't keep to 1200 a day and would binge. The band is now my tool to keep the bingeing under control.
ReplyDeleteBTW, you have the prettiest smile and amazing eyes.
Oy, all this math is making my head hurt. I've twice had a BMR test done where you breathe into a tube and that somehow pops out a number. I had it at a WLS surgeon's office four years ago and then at a spa-type place a couple years ago. Both times my BMR was 2260 cal/day to maintain. I don't even want to think about what that means regarding how many calories I was taking in. I'd be interested to know what it is now that I've lost some. I'll check out the calculator, thanks for posting it!
ReplyDeleteWow, thanks for the info. Mine comes out to 647....really puts things into perspective when you do the numbers.
ReplyDeleteIf I did that right then I need to eat 2292 calories just to maintain my weight. Seems like alot but then I am about 205lbs so I suppose i would need a lot to stay like this. Interesting how some of yours were so low....I wonder why??
ReplyDeleteWow, that put me at a very low calorie count, one that would prompt me to eat a neighbor! But last night I was watching some makeover show and the lady said to take what you want to weigh and multiply times ten to get your calorie count to lose 1.5 to 2 pounds a week. Didn't sound very scientific, but put me at 1500 calories a day, in the past that has been good for 2 lbs. a week. But, I haven't been banded yet! Keep us posted.
